County and District Responsibilities
The County Council has responsibility for strategic services including:
- Roads, public transport and road safety
- Licensing of birth , marriages and deaths
- Waste and recycling
- Social services and some aspects of health care

County Councillor Rachel Smith has been newly elected to represent Chalford, Brimscombe/Thrupp and Minchinhampton Parish Councils. Cllr Smith is elected by the people to represent them on Gloucestershire County Council and has to consider both the interests of the local electorate and what is in the best interests of the county of Gloucestershire as a whole.

GCC Mobile Library in Chalford

Chalford Parish comes under Stroud District Council. The District Council has a statutory responsibility for a range of services including:
- Planning and building control
- Rubbish collection and recycling
- Leisure and recreation facilities including a museum, parks and sports centres
- Environmental health and licensing
- Economic development and tourism.

Stroud District Council provides us with three District Councillors. All three District Councillors are elected by the people to represent them on Stroud District Council. Parishioners can contact them for assistance with problems/ concerns even if these do not involve the work of the Council.
