Chalford Climate Action Network
Chalford Parish Council declares a Climate and Environmental Emergency and pledges to do everything within its powers to make Chalford Parish Community carbon neutral by 2030 at the latest.
At the Parish Council meeting on 2 May 2019 it was agreed to set up a working group called ChalCAN (Chalford Climate Action Network) to address the need for urgent action at a community level to combat climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and the change to a zero waste economy.
ChalCAN has four sub groups helping to pursue its objectives more effectively. The sub groups are addressing BIODIVERSITY, ENERGY, TRANSPORT , FOOD & WASTE.
In the initial discussion we considered the roles that the Parish Council could take. Broadly speaking, they were for the PC itself to undertake to meet the target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, for the PC to promote the formation of an active Community group, and the PC to support the wider local community in achieving the changes necessary.
Meetings are to be held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Parish Centre at 7.30pm.
Cllr Simon Pickering, Chair of SDC Environment Committee, has produced a briefing document which sets out the changes which are required to become a carbon neutral society. Please click the link below to view the document.
