Recreation Grounds

Chalford boasts three recreation grounds – Bussage Pleasure Ground, France Lynch Pleasure Ground and the Valley Playing Field.

Chalford Parish Council as Trustees of Chalford Allotments for Recreation (which includes Bussage and France Lynch Pleasure Ground) and Trustees of Chalford Recreation Ground (Valley Playing Field) control and manage the recreation grounds.

The recreation grounds have been improved by the Parish Council over the years with the addition of play and exercise equipment. While there is free access for everyone in the parish, in order to ensure the safety and enjoyment of users, restrictions apply to lighting of fires, camping, golf and use of drones (or other remote-controlled equipment).

Bussage Pleasure Ground

Bussage Pleasure Ground is situated between Old Bussage and Manor Farm. There is play equipment suitable for toddlers (with supervision) up to twelve years of age, including swings, climbing frames, a slide and a roundabout.

For older children there is a skate ramp opposite the Frith Youth Centre.

A full-size football pitch is laid out with football goals and this is available for hire.

Please contact the office on 01453 887204 for more information.

France Lynch Pleasure Ground

France Lynch Pleasure Ground is situated between Chalford Hill and France Lynch. For small children there is a play area with swings and roundabout on the Burcombe Way side of the grounds, while the older children’s play area is on the France Lynch side, with slide, climbing frame and swings.

The council have been able to make additions to the facilities in these pleasure grounds in the last two years. The basketball and five-aside football pitch was installed in 2015. This was funded from the Active Together grants scheme from Gloucestershire County Council with the help of our County Councillor, Stan Waddington, and has proved to be very popular. In 2016 thanks to funding from the National Lottery’s Awards for All and a local developer (106 agreement) the parish council were able to purchase and install an adult outdoor exercise area.

The most recent addition, is a new play area which opened in July 2020. This project has been funded by Chalford Parish Council, Gloucestershire County Council Growing our Communities Fund, Stroud District Council, section 106 payment in respect of small developments, Broadband Action Group & National Lottery Awards for All. We are grateful to all for making this installation possible.
