The Area

The Parish of Chalford is made up of five individual settlements of Chalford Hill, France Lynch, Chalford Vale, Bussage and Brownshill and covers an area of 296 acres. It is sited within the Cotswold Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has a population of over 6,500.

The Parish lies mostly to the North of the main A419 from Stroud to Cirencester and rises from the river Frome in the Golden Valley (so named in the 17th Century for either the glorious autumn tints or the fortunes made by the mill owners) to the plateau of what was once Bisley Common. The other edges of the Parish are Cowcombe Hill and Toadsmoor.
